A famous singer Claire Lescot, who survives on the outskirts of Paris, is dated by several men, consisting of a maharajah, Djorah de Nopur, and also a young Swedish scientist, Einar Norsen. At her luxurious celebrations she appreciates their amorous attentions but she continues to be psychologically unresponsive and also heartlessly ridicules them. When she is informed that Norsen has eliminated himself as a result of her, she shows no sensations. At her next concert she is booed by an audience outraged at her temperature. She visits the safe in which Norsen's body lies, and as she confesses her feelings for him she finds that he lives; his fatality was invented. Djorah is jealous of their new partnership as well as triggers Claire to be bitten by a harmful serpent. Her body is brought to Norsen's laboratory, where he, by means of his scientific inventions, recovers Claire to life.
